Frequently Asked Questions

Q 1. Where are you located?
A.
We are located in Midtown Manhattan, at the south-west corner of 40th Street and Lexington Avenue at 124 East 40th Street (aka, 350 Lexington Avenue), Suite 801. We are two blocks south of Grand Central Terminal, across from Starbucks. The building's entrance is on 40th Street, between a restaurant called Bloom's and a hair studio called Concord.

Q 2. What trains are nearby?
A.
You can take 4, 5, 6, 7 and S subways, or Metro North and get off at Grand Central Station (42nd Street).

Q 3. Can I take the A+ Essentials exam one day and A+ Practical Application exam later on?
A.
Yes, you can. You can take both exams on the same day or on different days.

Q 4. Are there any differences between VUE and Prometric?
A.
Yes and No. Some vendors have selected a designated exam provider, while others co-exist with both exam providers.
Currently, VUE is the exclusive exam provider for Cisco, Oracle, Citrix, American College and VMWare. Prometric is the exclusive exam provider for Microsoft, Apple, IBM and Nortel. Some vendors who use both VUE and Prometric as exam providers are: CompTIA, Adobe, Novell and EXIN.

Exams are developed by the vendors so there are no differences in the exams for vendors who co-exist across both testing providers.
NYBI is both an authorized VUE and Prometric testing center.

Q 5. Can I take some exams with VUE, and others with Prometric?
A.
Yes, you have the freedom to choose a testing provider on an exam-by-exam basis provided that the exam vendor is not exclusive with one testing provider. Taking a certification exam at one testing provider does not obligate you to take other exams with that same provider.

Q 6. How long is the test?
A.

Q 7. What is the passing score for each test?
A.
We cannot provide an exact passing score for each test. Each sponsor replaces exam questions frequently. Different versions of the same exams has their own passing lines, so numerical exam scores often become meaningless. As a guideline, examinee should be able to accurately answer at least 75% the exam questions.

Q 8. What is an adaptive exam?
A.
Based on whether the examinee answers each question correctly or incorrectly, the computer determines the difficulty of the next question presented. The main difference between a fixed-length exam and an adaptive exam is that in a conventional fixed-length exam, you can skip questions or go back and review previously answered items. On an adaptive exam, you can't do this.

Q 9. Are Microsoft exams adaptive?
A.
No, current Microsoft exams are not adaptive. Questions vary in point weighting, but the number of questions are fixed and you can go back previous questions.

Q 10. Can I take a break during testing?
A.
A break will be allowed during testing if you request it, but the testing clock will not be stopped during the break. Candidates are not allowed to conduct activities during a break that may compromise exam security, including communicating with other examinees.

Q 11. If I don't pass an exam, how soon can I retake it again?
A.
Retakes require a minimum 5-day wait for any Cisco Exams. If you do not pass a Microsoft or a CompTIA exam the first time, you may retake it at any time. If you don't pass on the second time, you must wait at least 14 days to retake the exam a third time. A same waiting period will be imposed for all subsequent exam retakes.
